Greene County Career Center will host an open house for all community members and alumni on Nov. 4 from 4-7 p.m. The event will allow voters who approved a bond issue in 2018 a chance to witness the state’s newest training center. A food truck rally will also be held in the parking lot during the evening.
“We’re so thankful that the community has supported us and our Greene County students so strongly over the years,” said Superintendent David Deskins. “Since we took occupancy in July of 2019, there have been many requests for tours and events to be held here. We have been able to accommodate many of them, but most community members still have not had a chance to witness their remarkable investment. This is a facility of which everyone in Greene County can be proud.”
Beginning at 4 p.m., visitors can tour the building and see state-of-the-art career-technical training labs along with academic classrooms, offices and a multi-purpose room. A dedication ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Locally-based food trucks will be available for those who want to make an evening of it.
Greene County Career Center now offers 20 programs at the main campus plus an aviation maintenance program at the Lewis A. Jackson Regional Airport. These career-technical offerings provide high school juniors and seniors critical workforce placement opportunities plus a foundation for post-secondary education if they so choose. Students from across the county’s seven school districts can choose the career center and on campus enrollment is at 800. The building also houses the center’s adult criminal justice programs.
