Work-Based Learning

What is Work Based Learning?

Greene County Career Center works closely with the business community to develop job opportunities for students enrolled in career-technical programs.

Work-based learning is a combined effort of career-technical teacher, student, and business. It is recommended that each student participate in multiple venues of work-based learning experiences to facilitate transition from school to the world of work.

Eligibility

Students who participate in off-site work-based learning must meet multiple criteria and demonstrate strong professional skills. Participation in an off-campus work program is a privilege, not a right. Students enrolled in these programs will be evaluated by the business, the instructor, and our work-based learning coordinator or other school officials. At any time, a student can be taken off work placement for any reason by any party involved. Students must apply and be evaluated by the Work-Based Learning Coordinator prior to being part of an off-campus work program.

Eligibility Criteria may include:
  • 95% Attendance
  • 2.5 or higher GPA - passing all classes
  • Must meet minimum skill competencies established by teachers and industry
  • Reliable transportation
  • Parent/guardian and student signed Student Awareness Contract
  • Lab and Administration approval
  • No major discipline write-ups
  • 90% Employability grade
